Seven Bro7thers Brewery and Wolf Alice See Stars

When Two Success Stories Collide - Things Go Stellar

2018 was a huge year for the indie rock band, Wolf Alice, embarking on their first major global tour. The four piece indie rock group hail from north London, but started life as an acoustic duo in 2010. Since 2012, the group has consisted of Ellie Rowsell (vocals, guitar), Joff Oddie (guitars, vocals), Theo Ellis (bass) and Joel Amey (drums, vocals). They are building a growing back catalogue since releasing their debut single in 2013, Fluffy. A hint of the big time to come was their 2014 single , Moaning Lisa Smile, peaking at number nine on Billboard’s Alternative Songs chart in August 2015, which went on to be nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance at the 2016 Grammys. 2017 saw the band release their second album, Visions of Life, which debuted at number 2 in the UK album charts and went onto win the 2018 Mercury Prize.

Seven Bro7thers Brewery, based in Manchester, have also had an incredible year. They have a strong mission statement when it comes to their brewing, “We’re committed to making our beer the best it can be, striving with every fresh brew to improve on the last.” Family is important to these guys and they want to make interesting, quality beers that have a story behind each creation. During 2018 Seven Bro7hers ran a crowd-funding campaign with a £500,000 target and ended the year having secured pledges of £666,130.

At the tail end of 2018, the brewery decided to get together with Wolf Alice to cook up something a bit special for both sets of fans. The band wanted to be involved in producing a craft beer and the brewery team were looking for an interesting new project, et voila, Yuk Brew was born. Well, it took a little more hard work than that implies! Wolf Alice were involved in the branding process and eventually the name Yuk Brew emerged. The lead single from the band’s 2018 Mercury Prize winning second album, Visions of a Life, was called Yuk Foo. Yuk Brew is a kind of play on words. The fans will get it and for those not familiar with the band’s work, but are of Seven Bro7thers, then it will introduce them to the band. A win-win. Yuk Brew made its debute at the band’s gigs at the Victoria Warehouse in Manchester and the Brixton Academy in December 2018.

Speaking about the lager, Wolf Alice said: “We really like lager and we really like Manchester, so we teamed up with Seven Bro7hers brewery to make our very own bev. Here she is, ‘Yuk Brew’ in all her glory. The name is a pun on our hit song, ‘Yuk Foo. A delicious lager for every occasion.”
